About Us

Why use SqlJunkies or DotNetJunkies as names for community Web sites? A Junkie is "one who has an insatiable interest or devotion" and we are absolutely addicted to technologies and want to feed other developer's addictions by spreading knowledge. The official launch date of SqlJunkies.com for SQL Server developers is October 25, 2003 during the opening day of the Microsoft Professional Developer's Conference (PDC) in Los Angeles.

DotNetJunkies.com is a community Web site for developers using the Microsoft .NET Framework. DotNetJunkies.com has been online since July 2000.

SqlJunkies.com is promising to be one of the largest information- and feature-packed SQL Server Web site communities on the Internet today. SqlJunkies.com will be the community for developers to come and learn about building solutions using Microsoft SQL Server while being part of a collaborative community of peers.

SqlJunkies.com was created by the founders of DotNetJunkies.com - Doug Seven and Donny Mack. As developers ourselves, we have years of experience building successful online technology communities because we understand what a technology-oriented community should contain and what our members want.

Donny Mack - Senior Consultant
dmack@atomicconsulting.com
Donny Mack is an Microsoft ASP.NET MVP and MCSD and has been in the computer industry for as long as he remembers. He started his computer career at Microsoft as an ASP/COM Support Engineer, where he met Doug Seven, his friend and business partner. They quickly realized that while helping one person at a time solving their programming issues was fun, helping a whole community would be all the better so we quit Microsoft and started the world recognized Junkie brand.

Because we have always loved bleeding edge technologies we decided to invest our time in this new technology coming out named .NET and started our first website named CodeJunkies.NET; obviously since then we’ve had a few name changes to better fit our target audience. Now a few years later we’re the largest .NET only website on the internet today.

So why did we decide to start SqlJunkies, well we didn’t – SQL Server made us! Nearly every application today uses some sort of database and for me, my favorite is SQL Server. Many developers claim to know SQL Server, but she has many mysteries and we decided that we’re going to expose them to the world and make a great community doing it.

While I love working in the community and working with new technologies I also do have a social life. I like going to computer conferences, reading technology periodicals, buying new gadgets to play with, and watching the technology channel on cable. That’s a lie, well kind of. I live in Manhattan so you know that I love going to all the restaurants and pubs. I attend the occasional benefit, I love to travel, and play with my puppies – Littles and Sume.

Mack has been a co-author on several books on Microsoft's .NET Framework published by Sams Publishing and Wrox Press.
